In response to a friend's post on what is a moment, here is the system of time measurement from the Arthashastra of Kautilya:
1 day = 15 muhurtas (720 minutes)
1 muhurta = 2 nalikas (48 minutes)
1 nalika = 40 kalas (24 minutes)
1 kala = 30 kasthas (36 seconds)
1 kastha = 5 nimeshas (1.2 seconds)
1 nimesha = 2 lavas (0.24 seconds)
1 lava = 2 trutis (0.12 seconds)
1 truti = 0.06 seconds
The figure of speech in many languages in India is - give me a "nimesha" or moment - 0.24 seconds
Maximal neuronal speed is about 120 meters per second or about 1/60 (0.0167) of a second for a 2 meter body...there is time in a nimesha for about 15 full body neuronal impulses.
